Wayne Falls Takes Final Checkers
9/20/08 Back in 2001 the Outlaw Karting Series began and driver Wayne Falls was there to see it all begin. Falls has won just about everything there is to win including countless feature wins and a championship season every year the series has existed. Saturday morning at Eastside Wayne Falls took his final tow checkered flags as an active participant in the series. Falls will continue to be around the series as he said he will be here often helping out everyone in the pit area set things up as you see him do every week now. Falls took a standing ovation as he entered the track alone for the start of the final race of the day and his final race. Falls carried the checkered flag around for a lap as the crowd clapped and honored the accomplished driver and friend to many. Donahues Trophies of Stuarts Draft put up special money to finish the season off with its third money race as part of the Donahues Memorial event. Purple Plate racing on the day saw Quin Houff take the checkers in feature competition with Cody Woodward second, Chris Lilly third, Dylan Saul fourth and Ben Callison fifth. The race marked the end of the season points chase and after all the totals were added it is Hunter Koschara that will wear the Purple Plate crown for this season. Cody Woodward finished second, Quin Houff third, Ben Callison fourth and C.J. Hite fifth. Shawn Walker continued his domination of the Blue Plate season after nailing another feature win Saturday. Walker took the checkers with Quin Houff second, Jesse Snow third, John Goin fourth and Cody Woodward fifth. Walker will be crowned champion for the year with Jesse Snow finishing second, John Goin third, Garrett Boxley fourth and Dana Drumheller fifth.
T.J. Kidd took the heat race win in Gold Plate racing putting him on the pole for the feature event. Kidd took the green from the top spot and ran to the checkers for the win. Following Kidd to the line was Travis Conner and Sierra Cusson. Conner came away with the Gold Plate season championship followed by Sierra Cusson in second, T.J. Kidd in third, Dylan Johnson fourth and Eric Sivers fifth. In Pro Lite feature racing it was Billy Horton racing to the big win after taking the lead early. Joey Botkin was second, Russell Bogg third, Barry Horton fourth and Jacob Wimer fifth. In the final season standings it was Billy Horton coming away with the championship and Jacob Wimer second. Matt Anderson finished third, Barry Horton fourth and Clay Dudley fifth. Wayne Falls took his first checkers of the day in Pro Heavy feature racing followed to the line by David Whetzel, James Strickler and Chuck Harris. Falls was crowned champion in the division finishing ahead of Chuck Harris in second. David Whetzel ended in third place with Shawn Keith fourth and T.W. Richards fifth.
Cody Cubbage took the feature win in Jr Sportsman racing and with the win nailed his first ever championship as well. Cubbage was crowned the champion after finishing just ahead of Hunter Koschara, Benjamin Bunch and Trevor Larrick. Brad Horton run Sr Champ Saturday and took the feature win over Brandon Allen. Allen though secured the season championship with the second place run in the feature. Finishing second in the standing was Mark Baker followed by Mike Benson in third. Kyle Brown took the season championship in Jr Champ competition followed by Aaron Stickley.
Ray Petree too the checkers in Outlaw Open Adult feature racing followed by Darrell Kauger. Wayne Falls took the season crown despite not running the feature. Sherry Johnson was second in the standings with Ray Petree third, Aaron Weaver fourth and William Moses fifth.
Clone feature racing saw AJ Marshall take the feature checkers for the second straight week followed by Justin Crawford. Derick Hildebrand took the season crown followed by Miranda Campbell, Justin Crawford, AJ Marshall and John Strandberg. There was no Animal feature race but Travis Conner picked up his second championship after edging out Dylan Johnson in the final standings. Dillyn Leake was third, Sierra Cusson fourth and Katie Dobzenicki fifth. Eagle Beers was crowned Kidde Kart champion with Rachael Bunch finishing second. In the final race of the day Wayne Falls ran his final feature after a honors parade lap. Falls ran to the front and stayed taking the checkers for the final time. Ricky Huffman was second, Adam Meek third, Russell Bogg fourth and Chris Horton fifth. Falls also secured his third championship of the day and the final of his career. Adam Meek placed second in the standings with Ricky Huffman following in third, Jim Whetzel fourth and David Sivers fifth. Next week September 27th, the series will hold its award banquet at the track with dinner to be served at high noon. |
